Climate objectives 2

Air Liquide has long been working to combine growth with concerns for the environment and society. It contributes through its environmental and societal actions and commitments to achieve some of the Sustainable Development Goals set up by the United Nations, wherever it can make a real difference.

Climate actions

Abatement of CO2 emissions for a low-carbon society

To address climate change, it is time, more than ever, to take actions. China pledged that its carbon dioxide emissions will peak, stabilize and then decline by 2030, and the country will be carbon neutral and have fully established a green, low-carbon and circular economy by 2060.

As a responsible company, Air Liquide has always been committed to a sustainable growth. In 2018, the Group committed to a 30% reduction of its carbon intensity, and will fully deliver its objectives by 2025. The Group has now set more ambitious goals to abate its CO2 emissions. We also help our industrial customers to reduce their carbon emissions, developing new technologies and skills to support their low-carbon transition.

Reducing our CO2 emissions

Air Liquide commits to decreasing its CO2 emissions in absolute value by 33%1 by 2035. This includes direct emissions from its production and cogeneration units, as well as indirect emissions from the production of electricity and steam purchased by the Group for its operations.

Air Liquide commits to reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, aligning the Group with the international efforts to reduce global warming, as outlined in the Paris Agreement.

Developing low-carbon solutions for our customers and for industries

Drawing on our technological expertise and capacity for innovation, we're inventing cleaner, more sustainable solutions to help customers reduce their emissions.

For example, we are working closely with the steel industry to reduce CO2 emissions by using hydrogen on a large scale in steel manufacturing. We are also developing new technologies to capture and recycle carbon emissions from the steelmaking process.

Address the challenges of tomorrow

Accelerating in hydrogen

Hydrogen is a cornerstone of the energy transition. It offers a tremendous growth potential as a competitive low-carbon solution for many applications in the industrial, energy and mobility sectors. Deeply convinced that hydrogen will play a major role in the energy transition, Air Liquide intends to be a key enabler of the hydrogen society thanks to its assets, technology and expertise.

Leverage various resources to contribute to sustainability together

With over 120 years of technological expertise in industrial gas production as an owner/operator, Air Liquide Engineering & Construction (E&C) is a leader in its industry, stepping up to the urgent challenges of climate change and the energy transition to create the innovative technological solutions of the future.

Our E&C activities in China cover the entire project life cycle, to design the solutions that contribute to the product quality and the business growth of customers, while optimizing efficiency and reducing the environmental footprint.

Our diversity of technologies and solutions in energy transition and environmental protection, reinforced by digital technologies and a structured open ecosystem, enables our innovation teams to contribute to the Group’s sustainable growth and achieve our objective of carbon neutrality by 2050.
