Cryogenics can be defined as the science of low temperatures, including refrigeration at below -180°C and gas liquefaction.

Industrial cryogenics concerns applications where liquid gases such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, helium and hydrogen are used as refrigerants to modify the physical properties of materials or to maintain temperature during process steps. They can also be used as an energy source to power various applications such as fuel cell vehicles and microelectronics. It has a great number of applications in the chemical and manufacturing industries.
