Air Liquide China unveiled its 9th Computer Classroom in China at the Laowo Town Middle School in Lushui, Nujiang Prefecture, Yunnan Province on November 13. This computer classroom is equipped with 51 recycled laptops donated by the company.
Yunnan is the province that receives paired-up poverty alleviation assistance from Shanghai, while Laowo Town Middle School is paired up with the Shanghai Foreign Investment Association (SHFIA). With over 600 students, the school only has two computer classrooms that cannot meet the students’ demand of taking computer-related lessons including computer operation, English speaking & listening practice and tests.
As a member of SHFIA and in line with its sustainability objectives, Air Liquide China decided to donate 51 recycled laptops to Laowo Town Middle School. These computers were cleaned and refurbished by 26 employees during a volunteer activity, as part of “Citizen at Work”, a global program of Air Liquide to empower 100% employees to dedicate a portion of their working hours to contribute to local communities.
The Air Liquide Computer Classroom initiative was launched in 2012 to help young students in rural areas acquire digital knowledge and skills or facilitate vocational training. As of now, Air Liquide China has donated over 400 recycled computers to schools and communities in 11 cities, including Hefei, Yan’an and Ganzhou.
Rui COELHO, CEO of Air Liquide China, commented,
We are pleased to help improve learning facilities for the students in Lushui, Nujiang, and contribute to Shanghai’s poverty alleviation efforts in Yunnan Province. In line with the Group’s strategic plan ADVANCE, we are committed to taking concrete actions to create a positive impact on Chinese society.
ZHANG Guiyun, Principal of Laowo Town Middle School said,
The importance and urgency of information & technology education cannot be overstated, for which computers and internet access are key. The Air Liquide Computer Classroom will truly help our students in their future academic and even vocational development.
FAN Hong, Secretary General of SHFIA, said,
